Moving to a new office, the fine art of commercial office relocation

Phase 4: One day to Two weeks before moving day

Getting down to the wire, are you ready?

The closer you get to moving day, the more you measure time in terms of hours instead of days.

Phase four highlights

If you have been following your worksheet you are feeling pretty good and in control. If you been "winging it" you are probably pretty stressed out and very tired from sleepless nights.

  • Install phone lines and phones system
  • Verify Internet is working
  • Shred documents
  • Purge old, obsolete material (use someone who is not a pack-rat)

Chaos Prevention

One way to prevent total chaos is to keep each person's computer and peripherals separate and coded. This may require extra boxes, but the increase in employee productivity will greatly outweigh the cost many times over. Each box should contain:

  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Mouse pad
  • Phone
  • Printer
  • Anything else related to technology on the person's desk top.

Some hints to help your office move easier and less stressful. Arrange to have all of your purchase, especially large and heavy items, delivered to the new location. This will save you time and help to reduce your moving expenses.

Free Delivery on most orders of $50.00 or more

Something to consider about moving office equipment, furniture, computers and almost anything else large; do you really want to move it? If it is something you will replace soon anyway, donate it to your favorite charity and have the replacement delivered to the new office.

Are your older computers "Vista Capable?" What about "Vista Premium Capable?" There is a good chance that they are not so this is a great time to replace some of the older computers and get new ones moved to the new location for you. Before you do this, check with the company that provides your tech support so you don't purchase the wrong systems.

Most of the computers purchased before 2006 are NOT Vista Premium Capable. The minimum requirements for Premium with the graphics is 1 GB RAM, a DVD and a graphics card with 256 MB non-shared RAM. Weigh that against the cost of a new system with Vista.

If you do not have anyone who can help you, check the relocation resources page.
