Moving to a new office; the fine art of commercial office relocation

Phase 1: Two to Six Months before moving day.

Planning your move

Before all else

Before you plan anything make sure you know exactly why you are moving and that other people on your team, who need to know at this stage, also know why.

Phase one highlights

Phase one starts two to six months (or more) before the actual move date.  Obviously the more construction that is involved the farther out phase one starts.

  • List key needs that must be met by new office space
  • Identify the major improvement need that need to be made
  • Obtain all of the necessary permits
  • Obtain estimates from at least three contractors for improvements
  • Select targeted move date, check vacation schedules first

Data and Communications

Is there one person who understands data and communications enough to help you make intelligent decisions? Data and Communications are two areas that must be functional on time. What is the cost to you if your network is down, you have no phones or Internet for just one day?
